This blog was originally created by Maree Whiteley to document an ongoing Professional Learning program, designed in her capacity as AISWA Teaching and Learning Consultant, from March to July 2021. At its conclusion, this Action Learning project was published as an online resource, similar to previous AISWA Publications, sharing authentic teacher stories of Teaching and Learning in Western Australian schools.

The Purposeful Pedagogies PL program continued for a further four years with a new cohort of educators each year, willing to design socially-purposeful teaching and learning for (and with) their students. The focus on the Global Goals (SDGs) and Service Learning was a real-world thread of this Project-based Learning (PBL) approach, with multi-disciplinary Curriculum links.

This blog and the ongoing work of the newly founded Purposeful Learning Community, is dedicated the late David Price, champion of PBL and innovative, socially-purposeful teaching and learning, who sadly passed away in 2024. David’s inspirational book, The Power of Us: How we Connect, Act and Innovate Together (2021), was the provocation text for the Purposeful Pedagogies PL program.
